Clinique Dentaire Pointe Claire

Frequently asked questions

Do you accept patients covered by the Canadian dental care plan (CDCP)? and how much will it cover?

Yes, we welcome the beneficiaries of the CDCP.  The plan is designed to cover part of the cost of a wide range of dental treatments, with coverage varying depending on the individual’s income level.
The CDCP created a fee guide that determines the maximum amount they will pay for services covered under the plan. These fees may differ from the Quebec dental fee guide so there may be a balance to pay out of pocket.  Co-payment or fees not covered are paid directly at the clinic.

When should I take my child to the dentist for the first time?

At Clinique dentaire Pointe-Claire we, as well as L’Ordre des dentistes du Quebec, recommend the first dental visit of your child be scheduled within the next 6 months following the eruption of the first tooth or by their first birthday. If you happen to miss this milestone, make sure to schedule the visit before the child’s second birthday. It is always recommended to start off with healthy dental practices at an early age so that your child has a cavity-free and healthy mouth.

Is it safe to come for dental cleaning during pregnancy?

At Pointe-Claire dental we strongly recommends dental check-ups and cleanings during pregnancy. Pregnancy is a time of hormonal and physical upheaval. The change in hormonal levels can cause the gums to swell up and bleed easily due to inflammation. Soft and hard deposits on the teeth can further irritate the gums leading to gum disease.

It has been observed that there is a strong association between premature birth or low birth weight in babies of mothers with gum disease. Therefore, it is highly recommended to undergo regular professional dental cleaning during pregnancy. No X-rays are taken during the checkups for pregnant women.

Why is it important that I have a complete oral exam when I go to a new dentist or have not been to my dentist in a long time?

A complete oral exam is a crucial step in maintaining your overall oral health, especially when you’re visiting a new dentist or haven’t seen your dentist in a long time.

Can I have orthodontic treatment after 30?

Yes. There is no age to undergo orthodontic treatment unless there are any health or dental conditions that do not allow it. You can have orthodontic treatment even after the age of 30 as there is no age limit for braces or clear aligners. A consultation with Dr. Mauricio Galvis, Pointe-Claire dentist would be ideal to determine which treatment is the most suitable for your dental needs.

Why have my wisdom teeth removed?

Removing wisdom teeth is not always necessary. Wisdom teeth are removed to rectify a current problem or prevent the occurrence of issues in the future.

Impacted wisdom teeth, the ones that get stuck in the jawbone and never erupt, are one of the most common problems that need to be addressed by removal. Pericoronitis or the infection of this gummy flap on the half-erupted wisdom teeth is another common reason for removal. Your Family dentist in Pointe-Claire may advise you to get your wisdom teeth removed to reduce the chances of crowding of back teeth and the risk of pericoronitis. Moreover, it becomes easy to maintain oral hygiene after wisdom teeth removal. Come for a consultation at our West Island Dental clinic to know if your wisdom teeth need removal or not.
